Many traditional information technology certifications have name recognition, even among the non-technical. These include the MCSE from Microsoft, CCNA & CCIE from Cisco, and CNE from Novell. However developments have occurred in the arena of certifications including the introduction of several new and interesting qualifications. CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) is a widely recognized vendor-neutral certification provider. Two of the newer information technology certifications offered by CompTIA include e-Biz+ and i-Net+.
For some background, the CompTIA is over 20 years old and they note that they are “dedicated to advancing the growth of the information technology (IT) industry and those working within it.” CompTIA is a trade association with a worldwide presence. Multiple certifications are offered by CompTIA with excellent acceptance and respect within the IT industry.
The CompTIA i-Net+ certification addresses Internet and Online Technologies. CompTIA notes, “i-Net+ certification can demonstrate knowledge and competency implementing and maintaining Internet, Intranet and Extranet infrastructures and services as well as the development of related applications.” The certification was launched in 1999 but updated in 2002. The exam covers base-line technical knowledge of Internet, intranet, and e-commerce technology. No experience is required for this exam. The exam consists of seventy-four questions and the duration is ninety minutes.
The CompTIA e-Biz+ certification addresses e-Commerce. CompTIA notes “e-Biz+ tests basic concepts, key issues and critical technologies of e-business, supplying IT and business professionals alike with a solid e-business foundation.” The exam for the certification requires sixty questions in sixty minutes with 67% correct answers for passing. CompTIA recommends twelve months of e-commerce experience for those pursuing this certification.
